"Dear Sir, in answer to your note (see explanation at side) I am only able to notify you that Tuccinardi has been living and residing in America for several years therefore we have no ideas about his financial status and even less informations about his conduct. One of his brothers, resident in this town is an upstanding young man as are his parents. Pietro Tuccinardi from informations acquired, bought here, together with his brothers a farm property valued at eight thousand lire. (L. 8000.00) His father is the owner of 4 properties (farms and town properties) For the Mayor (Signature illegible)" [Source 1014]
He left the port of Naples, Italy on the SS Scindia and arrived in the US on February 21, 1897. Peter traveled with his mother Maria, his sister Elizabeth 17 years old, his brothers Luigi, age 11, and his brother James Peter to the USA. They were met by their father, Benedetto Tuccinardi. The family traveled under their mother's maiden name Corpolongo- a custom in those days. This was not the first time Maria traveled to the US. She also came in 1894 and later in 1907. At the time they arrived in the USA, none of them could read or write. We know that Pietro later returned to Italy twice and then came back ot he USA, once in 1910 and then in 1920. Luigi returned to Italy and then came back to the USA in 1912. I could not find any other records of Andrew, Maria, James Peter or their father Benedetto returning to Italy. We could assume the Andrew, being the oldest boy, traveled with his parents to the USA in 1894, and stayed here with his father while his mother returned to Italy to get the other children.
